Students can prepare with a solid background in science. Math and writing skills are also important. You must be willing to work hard, in tough conditions when necessary. Be willing to work cooperatively... the best work is done in groups, across disciplines, agencies, etc. DIVERSIFY YOURSELF... don't get "pigeon holed" early in your career and/or education.
Increased cooperation between interest groups to provide increased benefit to the resource... I hope.
A Passion for math and science, a love of the outdoors, and a challenge of conducting quality research.
Lack of understanding that many in the general public have for what we really do.
It provides the opportunity to understand forest and stream ecosystems, to work in the outdoors, and to develop relationships with fellow workers interested in the same things. Also, I like the intellectual challenges associated with problem solving within research projects.
